ACNE & SCARRING
ACNE
Acne is a common skin condition caused by clogged hair follicles, leading to whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. There are different types, including fungal acne, cystic acne, hormonal acne, and nodular acne, each with distinct characteristics. Over-the-counter treatments like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can be used to target surface bacteria and remove dead skin cells. Doctors may also prescribe oral acne medications in combination with topical antibiotics for more effective treatment.
ACNE SCARS
Acne scars can be categorized into two types: indented scars and raised scars, both resulting from inflammation during acne breakouts. Over-the-counter products with ingredients like Alpha hydroxy acids, Lactic acid, Retinoids, or Salicylic acid can help reduce acne scarring, but consulting a doctor is advised for personalized recommendations based on your skin type and scar type. More effective solutions may involve cosmetic procedures and medical facials, and your doctor will guide you through the best options, which may require multiple sessions or a combination of procedures to achieve optimal skin restoration.
POCKMARKS
Pockmarks, which appear as concave holes or indentations on the skin, can result from conditions like chickenpox or skin infections caused by bacteria such as streptococcus or staphylococcus. These marks form when the skin's deeper layers are damaged, leading to the production of excess collagen during the healing process, resulting in scar tissue that differs in texture from the surrounding skin. Covering up this uneven texture with cosmetics can be challenging. However, medical facials and aesthetic treatments are available to help reduce the appearance of pockmarks through multiple sessions, ultimately evening out the skin's surface.
